How to Wear Yellow…

You’ll notice I love yellow. It’s in my branding and my eye is drawn to it constantly whether it’s in art, the garden, or in clothing. However, it can be a tricky colour to wear and get right. And therefore a lot of people reject it.

They just haven’t found the right yellow. For warm skin tones, go for bright or burnished yellows (bright for Spring, burnished for Autumn ideally). Winters are incredible in an acid or greyish yellow, and Summers in a pastel. Try a few until you find the right one. Why is it worth it? The positivity of yellow and the influence it can have on our mood is undeniable. I attended a recent medical appointment, which I always find tricky, having had so many bad hospital visits in the past. And so I needed the positive boost of this yellow Kaffe blouse. The sun helped on this beautiful summer’s day too to keep my spirits up. Coincidentally I’d just watched a documentary on Van Gogh’s sunflower paintings. Not only did the artist move to the sunny South of France to a little yellow house to boost his mental health, but he painted the most yellow of flowers, the sunflower, on repeat, as a form of hope therapy.

Don’t forget about the invitation for communication and openness that yellow offers too. Wear yellow and see how much more approachable you are to others, how many people talk to you. It’s super interesting! What to pair with yellow? Blue and denim always works…
